Your eyes produce tears as a natural lubricant and a method of protection. When your eyes don’t have this source of moisture, they struggle to function properly. Patients with dry eyes experience frustrating and uncomfortable symptoms on a regular basis that may even interfere with their day-to-day life.
At Trendy Eyes Optometry, we use our state-of-the-art technology to diagnose and treat your individual case of dry eye. Book your appointment today.
Dry eyes are caused by insufficient tear production and poor tear drainage. Tear production can diminish due to age, use of certain medications, or as a side effect of a medical condition. When fewer tears are produced or the tears evaporate too quickly, dry eye syndrome is the result.
There are a number of factors that could influence your eye health and result in dry eye.
Dry eye typically boils down to one of two biological problems.
Your eyes need a certain level of tear volume to remain moisturized throughout the day. If your body’s natural tear production is not creating a high enough volume of tears, your eyes become dry and irritated.
Tears contain an oily substance called meibum. Meibum is responsible for creating a tear film which keeps tears from evaporating immediately. If tears don’t contain a sufficient amount of meibum, tears evaporate from the surface of the eye before they have the chance to hydrate the eye. This leaves eyes dry and irritated.
At Trendy Eyes Optometry, we offer an exceptionally wide variety of dry eye treatments. Here are just a few of the treatments we offer.
Lipiflow is a cutting-edge treatment system to relieve dry eye. Using a gentle combination of heat and pressure, Lipiflow opens and unclogs meibomian glands to stimulate meibum production and encourage a healthy tear film. Lipiflow treatments are performed in our office and we are one of only a few optometry practices in the nation with this technology.
Medicated eye drops such as Restasis offer immediate relief to dry eye symptoms, while simultaneously stimulating your body’s natural tear production.
